Halloween is our favorite holiday at Dalseth Family & Cosmetic Dentistry!

October 19, 2011 by Dalseth Family Dentistry

At Dalseth Family & Cosmetic Dentistry we love to celebrate holidays at the dental office and one of our favorites is Halloween. One of Dr. Pascal Dalseth’s fondest memories is the year his brother made an eight foot tall grim reaper for the yard. They wrapped it with rope to look like dental floss and made a sign that said “ Floss or Die.” They both got a kick out of it.

Our Treatment Coordinator, Kathy A., loves to celebrate the season by bringing in special prizes for the kids around Halloween. This year she got Dracula teeth, super balls that look like eyeballs, and skull rings that the kids cannot get enough of!

Although Halloween is a fun time for kids it is important to remember safety first when you are out trick or treating. Dr. Weber asks that you take care to enjoy braces-friendly candy like Fun Dips and Pixie Sticks while avoiding chewy, sticky candies which may stick to your braces. Also, make sure you are always with a “buddy”, wear some reflective clothing so cars and people can see you, and remember to brush and floss after all of the fun!

Why I love being a dentist, from Dr. Dalseth

October 11, 2011 by Dalseth Family Dentistry

“Being a dentist is a wonderful career. I often inform patients that I cannot imagine doing anything else for a career. I receive a tremendous amount of satisfaction being able to provide the best dental care for all of our patients.

We have been very fortunate to have many families that have been coming to Dalseth Family & Cosmetic Dentistry for multiple generations. It is nice to hear stories from grandparents and parents about their children as we watch them grow. It is also great to hear how much children look forward to coming to the dentist. It lets us know what a great job our staff is doing at making patients feel comfortable and welcomed.

I enjoy the opportunities to interact with my patients about the new technologies and procedures available to them. I love watching patients feel more comfortable with new products or techniques, such as dental implants. I am happy to share my knowledge of dentistry and encourage people to ask me questions about different procedures and the potential benefits!

Dentistry allows me to spend time with people and to help them achieve their dental goals. I am thankful that I was able to find such a fulfilling career.”

Sincerely,
Dr. Pascal Dalseth

Moooooove over gum disease!

September 22, 2011 by Dalseth Family Dentistry

Drs Stephen Dalseth, Pascal Dalseth, Todd Weber, and Sara Michel want to know: Is dairy a major part of your diet? If not, it should be! A study from the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) found that regular consumption of dairy products, such as milk, cheese and yogurt, can actually lower your chances of contracting periodontal disease (also known as gum disease). Results of the study also showed that adults who consume at least 55 grams of lactic acid a day are less at risk for gum disease.

Cheese is one of the healthiest snacks for your child’s teeth. In addition to providing large amounts of much-needed calcium, cheese also does its part to fight cavities. Cheddar, Swiss, Mozzarella, and Monterey Jack all stimulate the body’s salivary glands to clear the mouth of debris and protect them from acids that weaken them, according to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. This means cheese disrupts the development of cavities, especially when eaten as a snack or at the end of a meal. Calcium and phosphorous found in cheese reduce or prevent decreases in the plaque’s ph level and work to re-mineralize the enamel of your child’s teeth.

Gum disease is caused by a bacterial infection in the mouth that affects the gums and jaw. Gum disease results in a loss of teeth and bone, and has been connected to certain cases of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, respiratory disease and osteoporosis.

Eating dairy is not just healthy for building strong bones, but is essential for maintaining a strong, healthy mouth. Next time you reach for a quick snack, choose some cheese, or a glass of milk, and remember with each bite, and every sip you are preserving your teeth for a lifetime of smiles and good oral health!

For more information about which dairy foods are best for keeping your teeth healthy, please give us a call.
